Following the successful Expert Consultation on Animal Welfare held on April 3rd, a focused internal meeting took place on April 4th, 2025, to synthesize key takeaways and outline next steps.
During the session, team members reflected on the valuable input provided by the 12 international experts who participated in the consultation. There was a shared sense of appreciation for the depth of knowledge and enthusiasm the experts brought to discussions around animal welfare within a Safe and Just Operating Space for agriculture.
The meeting aimed to begin distilling a short synthesis from the consultation’s findings. Participants agreed that the insights shared offered a strong foundation for further analysis — especially regarding indicator relevance across species (cattle, pigs, chickens) and production stages (husbandry, transport, slaughter).
Moving forward, the team will conduct a detailed evaluation of the collected input, focusing on both scientific robustness and policy relevance. These findings will then be cross-checked with the BrightSpace modeling teams to assess the practical feasibility of incorporating the suggested indicators into the project’s modelling frameworks.
