On 12 May 2025, representatives from the EU-funded BrightSpace, GeneBEcon, and RATION projects held a joint coordination meeting to deepen collaboration on shared research themes.
One topic of the discussion was the finalisation of a collaborative paper exploring how the EU’s proposed regulation on new genomic techniques may influence the achievement of the EU’s food system sustainability objectives.
Looking ahead, the three consortia are planning to co-organise a pre-conference workshop at the EAAE 2025 annual meeting. The session will showcase interdisciplinary research linking policy analysis, modelling, and genomic innovation, and aims to stimulate dialogue on regulatory and sustainability implications for agriculture and food systems in Europe.
Project Highlights Shared During the Meeting:
- BrightSpace highlighted its recent expert consultation event on the animal welfare indicator domain, and shared findings from its 2nd modelling workshop to advance SJOS indicator integration.
- GeneBEcon shared news on its policy roundtable focusing on regulatory pathways for new genomic techniques, and updates from its stakeholder dialogues across the agri-biotech sector.
- RATION reported progress on modelling risk–benefit trade-offs of alternative food system pathways, and announced a forthcoming technical workshop on long-run projections for agricultural sustainability.
