Impacts, Trade-offs and Synergies of EU Environmental Policy Scenarios and Agriculture
How can European agriculture respond to environmental and biodiversity objectives while maintaining food production, viable farms and resilient agricultural systems?
What are the chances of ambitions for nature protection and competitive farming being brought together? And what happens when different policy measures interact?
At the seminar, we will open up BrightSpace’s latest modelling work on environmental and biodiversity measures affecting European agriculture. We will explore a range of policy and land-management options, including organic farming, peatland rewetting, and reductions in fertiliser and pesticide use, and discuss what different policy choices could mean for agricultural production, farm incomes, land use and environmental outcomes.
A key focus will be on trade-offs, synergies and potential unintended effects: where can different objectives reinforce each other, where do difficult choices arise, and how might the impacts differ across regions and stakeholders?
