Towards a safe and just operating
space for EU agriculture

Centro de Investigación y Tecnología Agroalimentaria (CITA)

Acronym: CITA
Location: Zaragoza, Spain
Role in the project:

CITA will construct databases (WP2) that will subsequently be used as a basis for ex post econometric work to examine the drivers of food waste (WP3) and just indicators (WP7, lead Task 7.3) within the realm of gender and education. As leader of task 4.2, in WP4, CITA will also investigate the role of non tariff measures (NTMs) in safeguarding safe and just trade practises and the impacts on trade flows. CITA will also provide modelling support in WP5 to characterise an agricultural baseline for the MAGNET model, as well as modelling improvements to enhance the portfolio of safe and just indicators in MAGNET (WP6 and WP7).  CITA will also be leading WP10 which seeks to consolidate gained knowledge, particularly from WPs 8 and 9, to design and implement a series of foresight narratives that will be operationalised within the models of the Brightspace toolbox. The end product will be an interactive roadmap report with recommendations for best practises for European agriculture.  CITA also contributes to project communication, results dissemination and exploitation in WP11.

Description:

CITA is a public research organization belonging to the regional Government of Aragón. CITA is located close to Zaragoza in the campus of Aula Dei, recognised as one of the most prestigious agricultural research centres in Spain.

CITA’s primary function is to conduct research and provide knowledge to improve productive efficiency and market orientation within the agro-food supply chain. CITA has a long history of research, attracting financial support from regional and national government, as well as playing an active role in European and international research projects. With a total of between 70-80 researchers and technical personnel, CITA is divided into four separate research units covering purely scientific and technology transfer issues relating to animal and vegetable sciences, environment, agricultural and forest systems and economic issues relating to the economic analysis of bioeconomy activities and their relationship with the rural environment, the environment, natural resources and climate change.
