We are pulling close with the Horizon Europe STEP UP project. Areas for collaboration and potential for synergies were discussed at an inter-project online meeting on 25 July 2024.
What STEP UP is all about?
STEP UP HE GA Nr. 101136785: Sustainable Livestock Systems Transition and Evidence Platform for Upgrading Policies aims at solving Europe’s livestock sustainability challenges.
Livestock production systems in Europe face mounting sustainability challenges, encompassing environmental, economic, and social dimensions. Issues such as resource depletion, biodiversity loss, and greenhouse gas emissions underscore the urgency for transformative solutions.
These challenges necessitate a comprehensive understanding of the impacts and externalities associated with European Livestock Production Systems (ELPS), essential for informed policy-making.
In this context, the EU-funded STEP UP project will provide clear, quantitative data supporting environmentally friendly ELPS. By analysing existing knowledge and identifying data gaps, it will develop new indicators for sustainability assessment. Through in-depth case studies and cost-benefit analysis, it will propose transition pathways for more sustainable ELPS. Using a multi-actor approach, STEP UP ensures real-world applicability.
