We are delighted to announce that four partners — Wageningen University & Research (WUR), the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), the Thünen Institute, and the Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC) — have successfully secured access to EUROSTAT microdata.
EUROSTAT, the statistical office of the European Union, plays a pivotal role in providing high-quality statistical information to support policymaking. The approved proposal allows our research partners access to an extensive dataset spanning from 2010 to the present, encompassing anonymized household records across nearly all EU countries. These records contain crucial information on household income, expenditure, food consumption, and employment.
The datasets, meticulously prepared by national statistical agencies, are exclusively accessible to accredited research entities upon approval of a detailed proposal. This access represents a unique opportunity for the dedicated partners of the BrightSpace consortium to delve into the ‘Just’ dimension of our project. This includes a comprehensive assessment of income and poverty changes, as well as shifts in food consumption and dietary patterns.
While in WP2 we compile and gather the data that is needed later in other parts of the work, utilizing disaggregated microdata is essential for our analysis in WP3 and WP7, enabling us to account for changes in distribution and regional variation. This access significantly enhances our ability to explore and understand the intricate dynamics of socio-economic factors within the European Union.
The approval of this proposal marks a critical step forward for BrightSpace, empowering our researchers to conduct in-depth analyses that will contribute valuable insights to the project’s overarching goals.
