Description
This deliverable outlines critical updates to agricultural models that will help guide the European Union toward sustainable farming within the “Safe Operating Space” (SOS). This effort focuses on integrating new features into existing tools to better reflect the environmental, economic, and technological realities of EU agriculture.
Key updates include distinguishing organic from conventional farming in trade, incorporating advanced systems like agroforestry and nutrient recycling, and refining the representation of farming practices to capture their environmental impacts. Cutting-edge technologies like remote sensing are being used to improve data accuracy on yields, soil types, and sustainability practices. Additionally, economic principles such as green finance and R&D investment are being adjusted to align with sustainability goals.
By linking farm-level and large-scale models, the improvements provide a clearer, more detailed picture of how policies and innovations affect farms and regions. These advancements pave the way for better decision-making, ensuring EU agriculture meets environmental targets while supporting farmers and rural communities.
