Building Capacity for Evidence-Based Policy: CAPRI Training Session 2025 Recap

From 17 April to 17 July 2025, the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute of Farm Economics hosted its annual CAPRI training session in a hybrid format at Humboldt University of Berlin. The course brought together Master’s students, early-career researchers, postdocs, and policy professionals from across Europe and beyond.

Supported by Horizon Europe’s ACT4CAP27 and BrightSpace projects and organized with the CAPRI consortium, the training combined technical model instruction with policy applications. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises ranging from model calibration to scenario simulations on fertiliser use, crop yields, and market impacts. Case studies explored decoupling schemes, border carbon adjustments, and the application of emissions trading systems (ETS) in the agri-food sector.

Guest lectures from SLU, Humboldt University, and EuroCARE showcased CAPRI’s ability to simulate CAP reforms, climate mitigation strategies, and sustainability objectives under the European Green Deal.

By blending practical workshops with plenary discussions, the training strengthened technical capacity, fostered cross-consortium collaboration, and equipped participants to apply CAPRI to evidence-based EU agricultural policy analysis. With its strong impact and engagement, planning is already underway for the 2026 CAPRI training session.
