Agricultural Economics Society Celebrates Centenary |  23-25 March 2026, Oxford, UK

The 100th Annual Conference of the Agricultural Economics Society (AES) will be held from 23–25 March 2026 at Wadham College, University of Oxford, UK, marking a full century since the Society’s first meeting at the same historic venue in 1926.

The centenary conference will feature the Society’s traditional program of panel sessions, keynote addresses, and workshops, alongside special events celebrating 100 years of agricultural economics. Highlights include:

  • Launch of “A Centenary History of the Agricultural Economics Society” by Dr David Stead (UCD, Ireland), presented to all participants.
  • A retrospective of AES Presidential Addresses by David Blandford.
  • Guided tours of Oxford landmarks associated with the Society’s founding.
  • Group photos commemorating this historic milestone.

The Presidential Address will be delivered by Professor Alan Matthews (Trinity College Dublin), while keynote addresses by Professor Jill McCluskey (President-Elect, International Association of Agricultural Economists) and Professor Thomas Hertel (Purdue University) will examine the pressing challenges facing the agricultural economics profession today.

Panels will focus on global challenges in food and agriculture and the role of agricultural economists in shaping effective food systems policies. Invited speakers include Professor Shenggen Fan (China Agricultural University), Professor Michael Plummer (Johns Hopkins SAIS), Professor Jutte Roosen (Technical University of Munich), Dr Danielle Resnick and Professor Johan Swinnen (IFPRI), alongside industry representatives, underscoring AES’s international reach.

The conference will also host a special panel reflecting on 25 years of EuroChoices, AES’s outreach publication, the presentation of the AES Prize Paper supported by the David Blandford and Katherina Hassapoyannes Endowment Trust, and a Masterclass on Handling Remote Sensing Data by Dr Michael Cecil (University of Maryland).
